8. PEAT
This is the best place to see peat - the preserved remains of plants which grew here when the area was marshland thousands of years ago. Peat is brought up from below the surface by ploughing or in mole hills. The remains of large trees, locally called 'moss stocks' are also dug up and can be seen here.
